Is recreational tennis in the UK sick? That depends on where you play. But if your club is ailing, Andy Murray and his business partners have a solution: put up a couple of padel courts.

Murray recently sank a significant sum into Game4Padel, an investment group who are building these new installations – roughly half the size of a tennis court, but surrounded by a high Perspex wall – around the country.

They have already delivered a transformation at the Edinburgh-based Thistle Tennis Club, whose membership had slumped from almost 400 to just 75 around five years ago. Since the opening of a pair of padel courts at the start of 2017, those numbers have rebounded close to their original level.
